Improving traffic flow and water drainage on two roundabouts

Improving traffic flow and water drainage on two roundabouts

A38 Little Eaton & Markeaton Roundabouts v1 This project involved constructing additional running lanes on the
A38 Little Eaton and Markeaton Roundabouts, widening the approaches and departures, modification of the existing splitter islands and conversion of existing traffic signals to improve traffic flow.

These changes included alterations to the surface water drainage on the roundabouts, as well as works to improve flow in the Dam Brook watercourse to the east.

  • Use of the welded Gabion baskets in place of the specified Woven baskets

  • Night-time working to limit impact of high traffic counts on A38 southbound

  • Early site clearance on Markeaton

  • Precasting lamp column bases off-site to enable Gabion works to continue

  • Redesign of street lighting to central reservation on the A38 southside to limit impact of precast lamp column bases on Gabion wall construction

  • Reuse of the existing manhole and outfall at Alfreton Road pond area.

Protecting the environment through careful translocation of the local native crayfish and eel population.
