Interserve delivering complex care to patients in the community
Amy Jones and Shaista Nawaz work for Interserve Healthcare and are delivering care to two patients with complex needs.
They are both part of Interserve Healthcare (IHC) teams delivering round-the-clock support to 37 patients in the community. IHC’s North West branch has 123 colleagues who are having to adapt to delivering care during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Shaista Nawaz, community nurse, has been with the company for six-years and works with a 33-year-old man who is on a ventilator machine, has a tracheotomy and needs support from two-members of staff at all times.
She said: “I really enjoy working with my client. However, coronavirus has made it difficult as we cannot now take him outside for fresh air because it is absolutely crucial that he doesn’t get infected.
“It also means we have to take extra precautions in our personal life and the outbreak has also made shopping extremely difficult as food is gone by the time I can get to the shops.
“My patient is doing ok. We are using the Personnel Protective Equipment and ensuring everything is clean. We are doing our job and giving him all the care he needs to keep safe.”
Amy Jones, community nurse, has been with the company for four-years and works with an 11-year-old boy who has Chace syndrome, is deaf and has a tracheotomy. Amy, who is based in Merseyside, had been studying to be a special needs teacher, but due to her studies being postponed by COVID-19 she has increased her hours with IHC.
She said: “I wanted to help more. The boy I am working with has complex and challenging needs. He was in a care home but they have had to close because of the coronavirus and he gets extremely frustrated that he doesn’t have the same routine.
“He needs constant attention and so my role is to provide that care and to ensure that his mother can continue with her job during this exceptionally difficult time.
“I make sure that apart from my work, the only other person I see is my husband. It’s so important to keep safe and to support each other.”
IHC delivers a best-in-class Care at Home business which specialises in working with patients who have a variety of complex medical needs to a thousand patients across England and has 1,300 members of staff. IHC is part of Interserve Group Limited, the international support services, construction and equipment services group.
